Julissa Veloz is a Dominican-American recording artist, songwriter and producer. She first achieved fame as “Tiara Girl” in Season 8 of American Idol. After elimination in the final rounds due to laryngitis, Veloz was signed to Carrillo Music, after Rod Carrillo had discovered her.
In 2010, Veloz released her debut single, “Take Control”, which went Top 10 in 8 countries and reached #8 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play chart. Later that October, Veloz released her second single, “Predator”, which reached #19 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play and had several thousand terrestrial spins countrywide.
Her collaborations with Carrillo Music have spawned her recent successes in 2012 with her singles “Mayhem,” (US Dance #19) “It Would,” and “Very Brady Day”.
Veloz was born in Newark, New Jersey. By the age of 10, Veloz began taking opera lessons with Juilliard graduate Nadine Herman at the Newark School of the Arts. During her vocal training, Veloz performed at several functions with CEOs of major corporations such as Verizon and Prudential.
By the age of 14, Veloz was personally recommended to attend Juilliard by world renowned pianist Dalton Baldwin. Instead of attending Juilliard, Veloz chose to leave opera and pursue the R&B and Pop genres with music producer/teacher Gerry Williams. Williams is known for working with artists such as Mandy Moore, Celine Dione and Justin Timberlake.
In just the past year, Veloz has acquired sponsorships from prominent clothing companies such as Lets Rage Clothing (owned by super-producer Clinton Sparks), Polly and Crackers and G-Shock US.
Her music is heard digitally on iHeartRadio’s ClubPhusion, Sirius BPM, AOL Radio, Music Choice and on land-based radio stations in a multitude of major cities ranging from New York to Los Angeles. Veloz is currently on a U.S. tour with stops in major U.S. cities as well as internationally in Poland, Germany and London.
